The fence and featherboard in these images were built for testing purposes and do not adhere to the following recommendations.

Ideally, you would like the cutout in the fence in which the sanding disc fits to be deep enough to house almost the entire body of the disc (see below). Smaller width wood could be sanded with the fence exposing minimal sanding disc surface. The featherboard should ideally be able to house half the diameter of the sanding disc.

Basically, the idea is to trap the object being sanded so that it can only be pushed/pulled through the sanding disc but can not fly away.
